History
History of "Huehuecoyotl"

The guardianship god of the fourth day of the month in the Aztec calendar was Huehuecoyotl, known also as the "Old Coyote." The god's origin was betwen the otomies and was considered a sly and whispering god. Dancers adopted this god and offered sacrifices and other offerings to instill value in the men. The god could also undo bad destinies at religious celebrations or protect his followers during battle.

The Academy

Ballet Folklorico Huehuecoyotl Dance Academy opened its doors for the first time in 1998. The purpose of the academy was to share the pride of Mexico with the community. At this studio the dancers learned the art of folklorico along with modern Latin rhythms (such as salsa and merengue). People of all ages have entered the academy including the youngest at five years of age. The Academy was near downtown Dallas at 3209 Ross Avenue and then relocated to the Maplewood Shopping Center. Currently the group practices at a recreation center, Pikes Park in Dallas, TX.
